Winter observations of divers are pretty rare in the Czech republic. On 24.1.2010 was observed one young Common Loon (Gavia immer) at Slezská Harta reservoir near Bruntál in northern Moravia. The bird was at very small piece of free surface so it wasn´t able to fly up. Deep frost was comming and Loon could freez over. The problem solved firemans from Bruntál. They made cca 20 metre long airstrip in ice. The Common Loon wasn´t at this place next day so we hope it successfully departed.
